Proceedings of the 4th National Symposium on Modern Scientific Computing, the 7th Northwestern Regional Congress of Computational Mathematics
BackSummary of the 4th National Modern Scientific Computing Seminar, the 7th Northwest Regional Conference on Computational Mathematics, and the 7th National Young Computational Mathematicians Seminar
July 26th to July 31st, 2004
The 4th National Modern Scientific Computing Seminar, the 7th Northwest Regional Conference on Computational Mathematics, and the 7th National Young Computational Mathematicians Seminar were hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University and Xinjiang University. The events took place from July 26th to 31st, 2004, in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Over 160 delegates from across the country (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan), as well as six Chinese scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Sweden, attended the conference.
The conference was chaired by Professor Zhinan Zhang, Honorary Chairman of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Society for Computational Mathematics. Opening remarks were given by Professor Yinnian He, Chairman of the Shaanxi Society for Computational Mathematics. Aniwar Amuti, President of Xinjiang University, Zhongqin Xu, Director of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division of the National Natural Science Foundation, Professor Ningning Yan, Secretary-General of the Computational Mathematics Society, former President of Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Yuesheng Li, and distinguished overseas Chinese scholars, Professors Zhangxing Chen and Chaoqun Liu, made important speeches. Also present at the opening ceremony were Professor Aixiang Huang, Honorary Chairman of the Shaanxi Society for Computational Mathematics, and Professor Abdurexit Abduresiti, Vice Dean of the School of Mathematics at Xinjiang University and Chairman of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Society for Computational Mathematics.
More than 100 academic papers were received for the conference, with 5 invited representatives giving 40-minute plenary reports. The remaining reports were divided into Groups A, B, and C, with 27 representatives giving 35-minute group reports and 68 representatives giving 20-minute short reports. These reports covered the latest research trends and hot issues in computational mathematics theory, numerical computation, and applications. There was abundant exchange and discussion between young scholars and senior experts, domestic scholars and overseas Chinese scholars, on their respective areas of interest. Some delegates planned to continue cooperation and exchange in the future. The conference was broad in scope and rich in content, with high-quality presentations, marking significant achievements in China's computational mathematics in both professional research and talent training.
At the closing ceremony, Zhongqin Xu, Director of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division of the National Natural Science Foundation, and Chief Scientist of the 973 Project, Professor Qiang Du, fully affirmed the achievements of the conference and offered valuable suggestions for the future efforts of computational mathematics in China and the Northwest region. Professor Zhinan Zhang of Xinjiang University clarified relevant issues of the conference, and Professor Abdurexit Abduresiti of Xinjiang University reported to the delegates on the organizational aspects and financial income and expenditure of the conference. Finally, Professor Aixiang Huang of Xi'an Jiaotong University delivered the closing remarks.
The conference expressed gratitude to the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Key Basic Research and Development Program (973 Project) "Research on Large-Scale Scientific Computing," the Chinese Mathematical Society, and both Xinjiang University and Xi'an Jiaotong University for their substantial financial support. It also thanked the leadership of Xinjiang University for their care and strong support in human and material resources, the extensive organizational work done by Professors Zhinan Zhang and Abdurexit Abduresiti of Xinjiang University, Dr. Hai Zheng Yu, Professors Aixiang Huang and Yanren Hou of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and the teachers of the conference affairs team at Xinjiang University, as well as all the delegates who attended the conference.
