The International Conference on Superconvergence and Posterior Estimations in Finite Element Methods successfully held in Changsha, 2004
Back"Finite Element Superconvergence and Posteriori Estimation" International Conference Held at Hunan Normal University
The international conference on "Finite Element Superconvergence and Posteriori Estimation" was held from May 31 to June 2, 2004, at Hunan Normal University. The conference chairs were Academician Zhongci Shi, Professor Chuanmiao Chen, and the specially-appointed Professor Zhimin Zhang from the university. The general and deputy secretaries were Professor Ziqing Xie and Professor Da Xu. Honorary chairs were Thomee (Swedish Academician and Honorary Professor at Hunan Normal University) and Professor Babuska (USA), a pioneer in the field of finite elements. The academic committee was composed of 12 renowned experts from both China and abroad. The conference was attended by over 40 delegates from 8 countries, including 16 from the USA, the UK, Germany, Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.
Finite element is one of the most important methods in scientific and engineering computation. Its superconvergence is an effective approach to improve accuracy and solve high-dimensional problems, while posteriori estimation is crucial for assessing the true error after computation, holding significant theoretical and practical value. Two previous international conferences on finite element superconvergence were held in Finland (1996, chaired by Krtizek, Neittaamaki) and the USA (2000, chaired by Babuska, Wahlbin). This conference was the third international conference on this topic. International experts in superconvergence research and posteriori estimation gathered in Changsha to share the latest research progress. It was a high-standard international academic conference with significant international impact. The conference reports, after peer review, will be featured in the "International Journal of Numerical Analysis and Modeling" of Canada. The three-day conference was conducted in a pleasant and enthusiastic atmosphere. Delegates exchanged their latest research findings, making the conference a great success. It was primarily funded by Hunan Normal University and received significant support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National 973 Project, the Chinese Society for Computational Mathematics, and Academician Lin Qun from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
